an Herbal & Folk Class at
West County Herb Company in Occidental, CA
Immerse yourself in the world of plant fibers!
Extract high quality fiber from Dogbane (Apocynum cannabinum) and other local native & naturalized fiber plants and explore several different cordage methods including leg rolling, mouth rolling, triangle twisting & splicing. Includes an in-depth-discussion of fiber plants used for string, ropes, nets, cloth, etc... and basic overview of harvesting and common processing methods. As a group, we will also make a rope using a basic ropewalk system. Lots of fun.
Participants should bring a small sharp knife and wear clothes that are compatible with using their thigh to “leg-roll” cordage. The best surfaces for this are bare legs or jeans.
$80, includes all materials
